Mental Health Matters!

Updated: Feb 10

If you don’t make time for your mental health, you’ll have to make time for your mental illness.

It has recently been reported that an estimated 8 million people in England (approx. 1 in 7) cannot get specialist NHS help with their recovery. A situation that will sadly result in months of unnecessary misery for the individuals concerned and will require sustained and significant investment to provide the services to address. I wish I could be optimistic.

I’d like to suggest it also illustrates the need to be proactive about our mental health. In the 11 years of facilitating mental health support groups, countless times I’ve heard people say if only I’d known more earlier, I could have made life changes, noticed the warning signs and asked for help sooner.

Offering workplace wellbeing awareness sessions delivers a perfect opportunity to do just that; provide information to enable and encourage employees to consider and be encouraged to be proactive about their mental health. It’s a truism that the best way to recover from mental illness is to remain well.
