In May this year ACAS published a report "Estimating the Cost of Workplace Conflict". The report reveals some surprising statistics with the estimated cost of conflict in the UK at 28.5 Billion!
Close to 10 million people have experienced workplace conflict,
Over half of these people suffered stress, anxiety or depression as a result
Nearly half a million resigned.
These stats are based on a snapshot and was generated before the pandemic struck. The concern is now everyone is returning to some form of new normal, insecurity, rapid change and continued economic pressures will raise a number of new conflicts with more resurfacing. This is a landmark report from ACAS and one they hope will ignite the debate about taking conflict more seriously. Early intervention not only saves time and money, but also promotes better wellbeing, which in a world affected by mental health is paramount.
